Some questions we get again and again. If you have a question about our products, browse the FAQs below for quick answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.  Still not finding what you are looking for?  Feel free to contact us, and we would be happy to assist you.

  1. How do I determine the Date Code for my Wayne Combustion Systems' oil burner?
    Show Answer

The Date Code is indicated on a label bearing the heading Date Code (16201 will also appear along the right edge of this label). The 4-digit number imprinted on the label is the date code. The first pair of numbers represents the week of the year of manufacture. The second pair represents the year of manufacture. Refer to a separate FAQ outlining the length of oil and gas burner warranties. Refer to your owner's manual for complete Wayne Combustion Systems warranty details.

  2. Will a Wayne Combustion Systems conversion burner be more efficient in my heating appliance than the current oil burner in the equipment?
    Show Answer

In general terms, when comparing a gas burner to a recently tuned-up oil burner in the same appliance, the efficiency improvement with gas is nominal. However, by the very nature of any oil burner, it simply doesn't burn as clean as gas and therefore becomes less efficient over time. This is precisely why oil burners require annual tune-ups. While efficiency is an important consideration, there's several reasons to convert. Visit our resources page to learn more about the benefits of converting from oil to gas.

  3. Where might I obtain a wiring diagram for my specific Wayne Combustion Systems' gas burner or oil burner?
    Show Answer

Visit the Downloads area of our website. Electronic copies of Installation and service manuals are available there. Adobe© Acrobat Reader will be required to access these documents. Wayne Combustion Systems' product manuals include basic internal burner wiring diagrams. Note supply wiring to the burner, as well as controls interconnection wiring to an appliance, would be covered in the appliance manual, not our manual. Should you require more information than is provided within the manual, please feel free to contact us via telephone or email.

  4. What should the settings be for my HS Blue Angel Plus (or HS Blue Angel) oil burner?
    Show Answer

Electrode tips are to be set 1/8" apart, 1/16" ahead of the face of the nozzle, and 5/16" above the nozzle outlet. Suggested startup positions for the Flamelock, the Primary Combustion Damper (located in the shroud beneath the Fuel Pump), and the clip-in Air Baffle (in the throat beneath the Transformer or Ignitor) are indicated in the Installation and Service Manual. The final position of the Flamelock (relationship to support ring machined into the inside diameter of the cast-iron Air Cone), the Primary Combustion Air Damper, and the Air Baffle must be determined using combustion test-equipment results. Pump pressure is generally factory set at 100 PSI and should remain steady during burner operation. Some applications require a pump pressure setting higher than standard. Contact Wayne Combustion Systems if you have any questions about the pressure setting required for your burner. You must provide us with the burner Specification Number in order for us to determine the correct pump pressure. NOTE: The burner spray nozzle should be replaced, not cleaned, at least once per heating season - and more often in severe applications. Do not touch the face of the nozzle or the filter with your bare fingers. Oils from your hands will negatively impact the spray pattern. NOTE: Oil burners should be set up by a qualified, licensed heating professional using combustion test equipment. This is to ensure a clean flame and optimum performance, yielding the highest efficiency possible.

  5. What is the relationship of the Flamelock Assembly to the face of the cast iron Air Cone for a Wayne Combustion Systems EH or EHA Oil Burner?
    Show Answer
The final relationship of the Flamelock to the Air Cone face must be determined by application of combustion test equipment. Start up settings (a setting to get you "in the ballpark" to start off) are to set the Flamelock Assembly flush with the Air Cone face for rates below 3.00 gph, 1/8" ahead for rates from 3.00 gph to 4.50 gph or ¼" ahead for rates over 4.50 gph. Refer to the EHA/EH & EHASR Oil Burner manual for further information.
  6. What are the electrode tip settings for a Wayne Combustion Systems MSR or MSR-DC series Oil Burner?
    Show Answer

Electrode tips for Wayne Combustion Systems MSR or MSR-DC Oil Burners are to be set 1/8" apart, 1/8" ahead of the face of the nozzle and 5/16" above the nozzle outlet. The relationship of the nozzle to the burner Air Cone, commonly referred to as the "Z" dimension, is 5/16" (nozzle face to opening through the center of the stainless steel Air Cone). Refer to the MSR & MSR-DC Oil Burner installation manual for further information. Note: An aluminum Gun Setting Gauge part number 14200 is available to assist with electrode tip adjustment and for setting the "Z" dimension. This gauge is included in the P/N 31156 Tune-Up/Repair Kit.

  7. What are the electrode tip settings for a Wayne Combustion Systems EHASR series Oil Burner?
    Show Answer

Electrode tips in Wayne Combustion Systems EHASR Oil Burners are to be set 1/8" apart, 1/8" ahead of the face of the nozzle and 5/16" above the nozzle outlet. The relationship of the nozzle to the burner Air Cone, commonly referred to as the "Z" dimension, is 5/16" (nozzle face to opening through the center of the stainless steel Air Cone). Refer to the EHA/EH & EHASR Oil burner manual for further information. Note: An aluminum Gun Setting Gauge part number 14200 is available to assist with electrode tip adjustment and for setting the "Z" dimension. 9. My oil burner indicates it was manufactured by Wayne Home Equipment. Am I correct in assuming that company is now Wayne Combustion Systems?
    Show Answer
Yes, our company name was changed from Wayne Home Equipment to Wayne Combustion Systems in the late 1990s. When the company was originally founded back in 1928, Wayne manufactured products ranging from outdoor equipment, such as mowers and tillers, to water pumps, sump pumps and oil burners for heating applications. Outdoor equipment production was discontinued many years ago. Wayne purchased the Magic Servant gas burner line in the 1970's, and a number of new gas burner models have been introduced since. When our water pump division was relocated from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Harrison, Ohio in the mid-90's it was determined a company name change was in order. Wayne Combustion Systems reflects our company's emphasis and expertise more clearly than the previous company name.
  10. Is it acceptable to remove, clean and reuse an oil burner nozzle?
    Show Answer
Attempting to clean and reuse an oil burner nozzle is not recommended. Trying to lengthen the service life of a nozzle by cleaning it may result in worse performance than before the cleaning. Oil burner nozzles are comprised of very close-tolerance machined components, yet are relatively inexpensive. A refurbished nozzle may appear to be clean, but the filter will likely remain contaminated internally. Is it worth the time and effort to clean a nozzle to find, after the fact, the flow rate and/or spray pattern have been adversely affected? Your efforts will likely have been wasted and you will still be faced with purchasing a nozzle and repeating the teardown, reassembly and burner set up process. HINT - Never touch the face or filter of an oil burner nozzle with your bare hands. Oil left on the nozzle face from your fingers can impact the spray pattern and oil on the filter can affect oil flow.
  11. I have what I consider to be a warranty claim relating to a Wayne Combustion Systems product. How do I pursue this?
    Show Answer
End-user warranty issues are not handled directly through Wayne Combustion Systems. Warranty claims must be routed through the OEM appliance equipment manufacturer in which the burner is installed, or through the Wayne authorized wholesaler or distributor through which the burner was purchased. This normally requires you to have the heating professional who did the installation contact either the OEM appliance manufacturer, or the wholesaler or distributor or wholesaler, from whom they purchased the burner or complete appliance. Both the burner's Specification Number (Spec #) and its Date Code must be determined for warranty consideration. Refer to separate FAQ's on Specification Number (Spec #) and Date Code determination should you require further assistance determining those two pieces of information.
